• “To be a Flower, is profound Responsibility” — Emily Dickinson

Many of my images comment on the passage of time and the depth to be found in experience, as the plants go to seed, then wither and die.

My work is created, rather than taken as photographs; the final images do not actually exist until I construct them using bits and pieces of multiple images.

  • I received my degrees from the undergraduate film school at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and the graduate art department at San Francisco State University. After making photographs for advertising and editorial clients, I returned to my own work.

Gallery shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Nashville, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Santa Fe, Sonoma, Healdsburg, San Diego and Atlanta, and a joint exhibition at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art entitled, Akin: the Art of Nicole and Marc Katano, have expanded the conversation.

After a sojourn in northern California, I’m very happy to be back in Los Angeles.
